The battery is fine. The book says it fits a C172R, and it does but not perfectly. Adding torque to the fastening bolts induces stress into the small plastic wings on the side of the battery. I added two aluminum tubes around the bolts to help distribute the load. The non-M version uses a metal hold-down bar since it has no wings. Sadly the battery is slowly becoming the most expensive item north of the firewall.

Immediately after installation an attempt to add air was unsuccessful. Neither an air fitting from compressor or from portable tank would add air, but instead only succeeded in letting all air out for a totally flat tire. Repeated efforts to add air failed so ended up removing fairing and tire for better access to valve. Took tire to another mechanic who had a fitting that would add air, but another would not. It seems the valve stem is too far recessed for most filler fittings to properly engage it. Very inconvenient at the least... hope never need to add air again, especially in a transient situation any attempt could turn into a flat tire.

I have used Goodyear in the past and they hold air better than any other tire/tube combo. During my last annual, I replaced my tires with Goodyear and the passenger side tire had a slow leak. it would lose about 10 lbs in a week. Changed the valve stem and no luck. The inner tube simply has a slow leak that may have eluded their QC. Goodyear will replace the tube however I am stuck with the labor and shipping because of their defective product. That is why I am giving it one star. When they work, they work great and when they dont, you will pay.
