Overview

This is a 3-1/4" dia. can reservoir with a 3/4" od hose barb outlet, 1/8" npt curtis drain valve on bottom of can, and a fire wall mounting bracket.

It keeps oil in can and off belly of airplane then can be drained later with petcock. Helps to keep crank case condensation to a minimum. Recommended for experimental aircraft use only not STC’d for certified aircraft.

I am now at my second purchase of this oil separator. What I like about it is the absence of a hose that would run down the firewall out of the aircraft. Oil on the belley of the aircraft is not totally eliminated. After 4 years of use, my first unit got blocked.. meaning that nothing was coming out of the purge and the can was found quite full of watery oil when I removed it from the plane. I opened it (which also damaged it as it is not made to be open - hence 3 stars). Inside is well made although pretty simple... layers of something like Scotch Brite all around, top and bottom. Now knowing that this is easy to clean and renew with a solvent, I decided to buy a new one. Next time I don’t see anything coming out at maintenance interval, I will remove it, clean it an re-install it.

Vans RV7 here. The separator does keep the oil off the belly of the airplane, but now I get a lot of oil mist inside the cowling near the separator and end up clean oil off the firewall. Also, plane smells like oil when taxiing. Im removing mine to put back the old tube to dump the crankcase vent under the plane again.

Made out of 50 cent paint can and a fancy paint job. Functional but not durable. Can be made in a couple minutes from $4 worth of hardware parts.and a fuel drain.
