Overview

This is an 90 degree oil filter adapter fully machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum and anodize in black. It is similar to other adapters on the market but only weighs 17.2 oz. made of billet rather than cast aluminum.

The GSM Inc. vertical "full flow" oil filter kit is designed to offer Lycoming engine owners several advantages over the standard Lycoming oil screen or filter hardware. This kit repositions the filter in a vertical orientation, delivering two primary benefits:
    Optimized Installation Space
  • The filter is mounted in "free" space, allowing installation in engine compartments with minimal firewall clearance—areas where only an oil screen might otherwise fit.
    Improved Accessibility
  • The vertical orientation provides easy access for maintenance, eliminating the need for awkward hand positions or risk of injury during filter changes.

Clean Filter Changes
When it’s time to replace the filter, a simple prick punch in the top of the filter allows oil to drain back into the sump, preventing spills during removal. This eliminates the need to clean the accessory case, lower cowl, or nose gear area.

Adapter and Gasket kit ONLY (No Oil Filter Included). Some applications require a spacer between the adapter and accessory case. 8130 Form are not available for this adapter

Eligbility

    Piper Aircraft (Metal Fuselage – Single & Twin Engine):
  • Not compatible due to interference with the top center tube of the five-point engine hard mount.
  • Exception: The Piper PA-38 Tomahawk is supported, as it uses a four-point mount.
    Lycoming O-235 Series: May not be supported—verify compatibility before installation.
    Piper Aircraft (Fabric Fuselage):
  • Generally compatible with all Lycoming-equipped models using a four-point engine mount, unless prior modifications cause interference.
    Grumman Aircraft:
  • Grumman AA-5B Tiger (Lycoming 180 HP) - Not compatible due to clearance issues.
  • All other Grumman models with listed Lycoming engines - Should be compatible unless previous modifications result in interference.
