Great easy health check on your engine. Gives you a heads up when your engine is starting to eat itself. I don’t know why it is not a required part of every engine condition inspection.

If you want your sample reading returned sooner send it first class or priority mail. If you use the postage paid it will take much longer. Using First Class mail, I usually get my samples results within a week.

Great company. Great product. Metal Check has been used on my O-360 from first oil change at 25 hours to most recent at 2035 hours. Oil changes are at 50 hour intervals. Excellent product, technical support and timely turnaround.

A little dysfunctional on the receiving end when the oil samples arrive. Three times they told me they didnt have my sample, even though USPS or FedEx said they delivered it a couple of days earlier. Miraculously, they found it. BUT DO NOT BUY with return postage included. Its a combination of USPS and FedEx (SmartPost) that can take forever. My latest kit Ive returned has now made it around only 40 miles in 9 days. Send it in USPS 3-day flat rate shipping if you actually want timely results.

Warning! Contains a Plastic Straw! May not be legal in your jurisdiction. But really this is a solid oil sample kit. Just make sure to take a sample mid drain. Oil analysis is great for establishing Trend Monitoring, meaning you have to sample at every oil change, not just once in a while.

My advice is to order the non-postage paid kit and ship it to the lab via UPS. I shipped my sample postage paid via USPS on June 23rd from my local Post Office in Southport NC. It was delivered to FED EX on June 25 2021. It is expected to arrice today, Wednesday July 7th, at AVLAB in Southhaven MS.

Analysis is important and the reports from Avlab seem useful. The main problem with last several samples is that they seem to get lost either in shipping or at the lab. I shipped my last sample 2 months ago and still dont have results. The previous sample took similarly long. I have been using the provided shipping label, but plan to try without the prepaid label next time.

Kit is fine but it takes 3 weeks to get results. Next time I will get the option with no return postage and ship at the post office.

Fast and simple to use. An inexpensive way to monitor your engines health. Five stars if you live in the USA but I live in Canada so there is no free shipping if it isnt mailed with in the USA. It should say that on the net but I only found out after buying one.

Description should include the sampling directions. Turns out I already drained my oil, so cant take a sample.

To no fault of aircraft spruce, the prepaid postage of this product is a joke. I could have walked the sample to the lab quicker than it took the apparent combination of USPS and FedEX. Samples were shipped on a Wednesday didnt showing tracking until that Friday. Checked the following week for delivery status and showed not to be delivered until the following Friday. Checked the Monday after and now showed delivery not going to be until Thursday. Thats 2 weeks and 1 day to ship from Oklahoma to Louisiana. DONT DO THE PREPAID POSTAGE!!!!!!!!! Other than that its a valuable tool for trending engine conditions and wear.

Used prepaid postage version. Took 4 weeks for them to get it, and didnt have a tracking number so I had given up on it. Finally I received the results but since it was the first sample I submitted I had nothing to compare them to so it meant absolutely nothing to me. They didnt offer me any Normal numbers for comparison. So at least next time Ill have a comparison.

To save a buck, Avlab choose to inflict on their business long turnaround times. For years I’ve bought the kits with postage included, as it is very convenient. At some point, I think they switched the return label from first class to parcel post. The last turnaround was just shy of a month. Time to switch to AOA and first class postage label.

Sent me an incomplete report. I called to resolve the issue and they refused to tell me what data was missing and allow me to give them the missing data. They claim lawyers wons allow it. I ended up being shouted at with no idea what was missing and no usable report data. Never again.

Dont ever, ever use the pre-paid postage option, what a complete DISASTER. Update: after 22 days of waiting, the oil sample has still not been delivered to AV LAB, and there is absolutely no end in sight. I would like a refund for the kit and postage. I will have to re-buy the kit, re-take the oil sample and re-ship using a reputable company like UPS or FedEx. What a nightmare and circus of a service that is offered by AV LAB.

Don’t use or pay for their return postage, it’s a rip off and the oil sample does not get delivered to them in a timely manor. So much wasted time...
