These Tyco switch breakers are a great replacement for failing switches.
Pricing far better than competition. Spruce is always fast and accurate.

     Good out of the box.
Per earlier review, pulled SAIB CE-13-22. It reports design mods to mitigate the reported failures on high-use SSCBs (cycled multiple times per flight) and there are no additional ADs at this time. Will monitor building from scratch so have a set of all-new CBs right now. Many thanks to prior reviewer Jay for that info in 2018.

I have used quite a few of these now, some in service for about 8 years. No issues at all. They work great. I have used 30 amp as masters, down to 3 amp for avionics. All have worked flawlessly.

When looking at them face on, compared to the vintage Klixon switches they replaced, these switches are slightly narrower and taller. They barely fit as replacements in my aircraft. Check dimensions carefully.

I’ve used these switches in my last 2 homebuilt RV aircraft. I like them.
Only problems I’ve had are
After plane parked on ramp for an hour on a hot summer day, I could not turn on switches on due to heat from sun. Covered / shaded with my map for about 10 minutes to cool them down - started workin again.
Just had toggle arm break off at base when I flipped switch on. (8yr old-360hrs) This is a first for me but I see a review where it happened to someone else...hmmm.

I have several of these installed
First one to break off at the root of the toggle.
Switching has worked fine. A little expensive
For what they are. Switch was eight years old.
Hope this incident was isolated.

I would like to see a design that provides a better visual cue that its tripped. The disparity in pricing between the same switch in different amperages seems high.

I bought this switch as a direct replacement for the original avionics master switch which was also made by TE (Tyco) in my Beechcraft A36. The form and function were the same apart from a smaller toggle lever on the current switch. Upon installation, it worked fine. But after the first flight, it would no longer turn off. Instead, the lever would spring back to the on position (which is power-off in the fail-safe Beechcraft design). After it cooled overnight, it would turn off (on) again. This continued on subsequent flights and I will have to replace the switch. The original switch was labeled Made in Mexico and the new one is Made in China. Ive read other reviews about the quality and durability of this switch and it doesnt seem to be up to par.

While anything mechanical can fail, it should fail gracefully. 50 amp version of this switch failed when plastic case fractured, leading to loose contact pressure when on with concomitant high resistance, lowered voltage to load, and too-hot-to-touch switch in panel. Bought another to replace and will now change prophylactically every five years. Previous switch was about 10 years old and around 1000 hours of use.

Made in China. Feels like as well. Otherwise similar to the OEM breaker.

I have several of these installed that are 9 years old. The handles are breaking off systematically
On the ones most frequently used. Obviously they have a cycle life. Ones currently used on every flight are failing one by one. Aircraft has 500 hours now.

In Brief. The FAA has issued SAIB (CE-13-22) which advises owners of airplanes with W31 series switch style circuit breakers made by Tyco or Potter Brumfield of an airworthiness concern. There have been known continued failures of these SSCBs on Cessna Aircraft and other and on homebuilt aircraft. They do nor advise using them beyond 600 hours in heavy usage. Spend a little more and get a better circuit breaker.

These fail. 3rd one now.
1st lost contact and caused Pamel out on approach
2nd one broke off
3rd fails after install and does not stay up.
Unclear if they are fakes as markings and production location vary significantly.

I have replaced the W31X2M1G15 installed on my Whelan Flasher circuit twice within the last 4 years. The last one lasted only one year! They short out and the circuit won't stay energized. Very dissatisfied!
