700-6 6 ply high performance retread tire. Their premium retreads are produced by their affiliate: Aero Wheel & Brake Service Corp. Aero WBS holds FAA certification to retread high speed aircraft tires up to 225 MPH. Their sizes range from small piston engine aircraft through Regional Jet aircraft. 95% of the worlds airlines depend on retreads not only for cost control, but for the extended life they provide over most new tires. Aero has the most advanced Laser Shearography tire testing facility in the USA for its Retreads. |
LOVE LOVE LOVE these tires They aren’t necessarily cheaper to buy, but when you factor in NOT changing tires as often, they become cheaper to use. We are a flight school, so our poor planes get thousands of landings (and is it a coincidence that autocorrect always writes LASHINGS?) I’ve used regular tires, but retreads are the only way to go. I have never had one fail, I think it’s an unfair comparison when people say, “Yeah but what about all those blown-up retreads you see on the side of the freeway?”. That’s from semi-trucks! That’s higher speeds and a lot more weight than our little training airplanes ever make these tires endure. I have never had one, even remotely separate out fail. I have had a couple of regular tires that have had cord separation over the years though. So, I think in the big picture, retreads are a lot safer than the regular ones. Then there’s the fact that they are just simply thicker! We get so many more months out of our retreads than we do our regular tires. My only complaint is that they are definitely heavier. If weight and balance are a concern and you are flying an airplane that’s going out at gross weight every lesson like a little 152 or something, you better learn what the weight differences between the retreads and the regular tires because there IS a difference. But overall, I cannot recommend these enough! I’ve owned a Flight school for 41 years, tens of thousands of landings, retreads are the way to go!

Very economical and round as a tire can be. Actually, I could remove the wheel balance weights and am very happy with the result.

I have used Desser retread tires for the last several years. For the money, it is a great solution to your tire needs. For rental airplanes or for high cycle operations, go the retread route. However over the last 6 months, I have notice issues with sidewall rubber cracking (not into the cord). This appears to be a carcass age issue and does not necessarily impact the performance of the tire. It is unnerving to see this condition when doing your pre-flight and hopefully Desser is evaluating serviceability prior to vulcanizing the new rubber. Maybe a simple information sheet could be provided with each tire so as to better understand what to expect with a used retreaded tire.
