Overall, a very good product works well. Instructions are very brief and assume you know to push-in before turning the old bulbs to remove (or youll damage them). The strobe took multiple resets to flash all 3 lights first one would flash, then 2, and eventually all three. It would be helpful to have a sample logbook writeup to use.

Works excellent. Bulbs are quality and provide an nice range and effect. Not a true strobe, but sure is close. Work well in constant on mode too. I added the Whelen LED beacon, and you can barely even look at that. Now with a polished aluminum C-170A , I will have some visibility up there.

Q: This Navstrobe sextant kit does not state not FAA approved but the individual bulbs do state the warning. Are they FAA approved?

The Aircraft Sextant Nav System With Constant + Fast Strobe 40w lights Meet FAA AC No: 20-74 and TC Part V - Chapter 523, Subchapter F, 523-VLA.1393 requirements but is not FAA/PMA Approved. FAA Approval paperwork is not available.

Q: Can this Navstrobe 40w sextant kit be legally installed in a certificated aircraft? If so, what paperwork is needed? Would a form 337 be acceptable to the FAA, or would it need a field approval? Would I require a DER report for legal installation? Thank you

This is a replacement bulb kit for NAV and Tail lights, and are made to meet, or exceed, the TSO requirements, but does not have any FAA approval. These lights do have an extra safety flash feature, but does not replace strobe lights on an aircraft, and these can only be in the flash position during daylight flying. NAV lights require a constant light for night flying. NAV light bulbs can be changed by the aircraft owner.

Q: Can the Navstrobe 40w Sextant Kit be used on a 24 volt system?

Yes, these units can be used for systems 10-28V.

Q: At Sun-N-Fun a rep said that the sextant kit came with a notice and a placard to be put at the nav light switch. Is this enough to authorize the installation in a certified aircraft?

This will meet the TSO requirements but it is not technically TSO'd. You will need to check with an A&P to see if this legal for install in your aircraft.

Q: My aircraft does not have strobes. Can these be controlled by the single switch I have to turn on the nav lights?

A single switch is all that is needed to operate these lights. If you turn it on once, the nav lights are in a constant mode, with no flash. If you turn them off and on again after that, it switches to the fast strobe mode, and all the lights will flash as a strobe.

Q: While in flash mode, was is the duration of flashing between pauses. ie 2 seconds of flashing, 1 second pause, 2 seconds flashing, 1 second pause?

3 flashes per second with a 1 second pause per sequence.
