Grez-Off is an an alkaline cleaner. If left on paint it will eat it after time. The manufacturer suggests to try a spot test in in inconspicuous area first. In my experience, you just don't let it sit on painted area for more than a few seconds and rinse with water, you should be fine. If you use it to on a rag or towel to remove oil or grease residue, wipe clean, and rinse immediately you should be fine. If it sits for longer than say, 30 seconds, yes it will eventually break down the paint.
